"Moon Knight" Director Mohamed Diab's Strong Criticism For Black Adam Film

Not a few films or TV shows were released with issues regarding inclusion or representation raised for one reason or another. One of them is DC's upcoming "Black Adam." "Black Adam" is a film that has a deep connection to Egyptian mythology. But the film was heavily criticized by "Moon Knight" director Mohamed Diab, who criticized the superhero film's lack of representation of Egypt and its culture. In a new interview translated by The Direct, Egyptian-born Diab expresses her disappointment at "Black Adam" for not taking the initiative with sourcing material that truly highlights the culture and history of the Egyptian homeland.

"I was really annoyed with DC when they put Black Adam in a fictitious middle eastern country as an excuse to line up non-Egyptians, when it was clearly meant to be in Egypt," he said. "The opportunity for representation should not be wasted." However, it can't be blamed entirely, considering that the story in the comic also doesn't mention Egypt at all. "But it's not entirely wrong because it's based on an iteration of the comic that doesn't mention Egypt."

“Black Adam” may have chosen to follow the source material closely and not lead the film into a fully formed cultural depiction of the country it was shot in. "Moon Knight" is just the opposite. This television series completely immerses itself in its setting in a way that brings a completely authentic TV show to life. "I want to show Egyptian talent as much as I can," Diab said in discussing his views on working at "Moon Knight". "Every culture has to be represented by its people, so I hired actors, editors, costume designers, art directors and a composer who was all Egyptian."

Actor Dwayne Johnson seems to be very enthusiastic about his upcoming superhero film, "Black Adam". He recently spoke with the Men's Journal about his step into the world of the DCEU. We're going to change the preconceived notions on their ears."

Batman and Superman have been known to have their own dark sides, especially when vengeance seems ready to take over and watch them kill without remorse. However, there is always a moral dilemma that occurs before the truth of the DC world is restored to its place and unjustified murder is avoided. For Black Adam, it doesn't seem like it will end.

Johnson has previously said that his film will feature more victims than any other DC film, and will push the level of violence to a breaking point. However, another character considered to have jumped from comic strip rules is John Cena's Peacemaker, who is currently doing well on HBO Max in his debut series.
