Review and Synopsis of the Black Box Film by Director Yann Gozlan

Film Black Box / Boite Noire, is a science fiction genre film, the work of director Yann Gozlan. This film will take the audience into the depths of this psychological thriller, well-executed by the main character Pierre Niney, who plays Mathieu Vasseur, an aviation expert at BEA, specializing in the sound part – the transitional changes that are contained in the black boxes placed on each plane.

This black box function records all events in the plane and cannot be easily destroyed if the plane has an accident. Record these events, usually analyzed to determine what happened to the plane. Mathieu Vasseur himself has a paranoia with sound, this is shown several times in certain scenes, especially when he is deep in thought. This gave him a feeling of doubt about his findings. Mathieu Vasseur is like an analysis in general, when he finds something wrong he feels haunted.

However, if the general explanation is able to reduce the feeling of being haunted applies to the analysts in general, then for Mathieu Vasseur it is not enough and he begins to carry out his own investigations to dig deeper. Mathieu Vasseur with this tendency of paranoia, often leads himself to bigger problems and sometimes he doesn't hesitate to argue with his boss Victor Pollock (Olivier Rabourdin). Even on the day of the accident investigation, he was arguing about the helicopter investigation and he felt for this reason that his superiors did not invite him to be involved further in the aircraft investigation.

When the black box finally arrived at the lab, his superior suddenly disappeared and then he was ordered by the BEA top command to be the head of the investigation, due to his expertise in analyzing sound. This investigation process then brought him back to the suspicious behavior of Victor Pollock and also slowly re-explained the reasons behind the events that happened to Victor Pollock who suddenly disappeared.

Through the duration of the film, which is 1 hour and 30 minutes, the audience is brought to follow the pattern of Mathieu Vasseur's thinking and makes the audience feel that Mathieu Vasseur is suffering from severe paranoia. He is very obsessed with his research. In this regard, he is willing to do whatever it takes to prove his theory and preconceptions are correct. The audience was also brought to feel how frustrated Mathieu Vasseur was when he realized he had made a fatal mistake and also felt tense and also happy when Mathieu Vasseur was proven right.
