Jared Leto Returns to Play DC's Joker

The Joker is arguably one of the most popular comic strip characters of all time. There are many actors who played the role including one of them is Jared Leto. Leto played the Joker in David Ayer's "Suicide Squad" in 2016. The film was critically acclaimed, until Zack Snyder convinced the Academy Award-winning actor to return as the Joker for 2017's "Justice League."

Despite the criticism that accompanies the film, Leto is apparently still enthusiastic about having to return to playing the iconic character. He made the remarks while on a press tour for his upcoming Sony Spider-Man "Morbius" spin-off. "Never say never," the actor told Variety. "For me, characters are like living and breathing people. I know they aren't but I feel attached. It's a shame to never do that again."

He also praised Snyder who seemed to have similar thoughts to him. According to him, Snyder is a director who really cares about the characters and the fans. "I love being a part of her journey and retelling the story and telling it as if she were the person she's always dreamed of being," she told ET. "And it was fun to immerse myself into the character again."

Furthermore, he also talked about his decision to often transform for a role. Recently, he challenged himself to walk with a cane and learned to limp to play the character Morbius after he previously stunned when transforming into Paolo Gucci in "House of Gucci".

He calls it deep work. According to him, the decision to choose to put himself through sometimes tiring circumstances can make him learn. "I don't want to be too specific because I want to keep some to myself," he said of the process. "No accidental puns. I like puns, but I didn't mean it that way. I worked with people who had this particular physical challenge and imitated it after that."

Not a Killer Clown, Joker's Role in Justice League Snyder's Cut

Jared Leto's acting, who played the Joker character in the 2016 film "Suicide Squad", cannot be doubted. As if his charm never fades, the 49-year-old actor will appear again as the Joker in the film "Justice League Snyder's Cut". The Joker was not the original character that was planned to appear in this, before director Zack Snyder decided to add it. In other words, the character played by Jared was not part of Zack's original plans, before he stopped working on the film in 2017.

Zack himself was the initial director for the "Justice League" project which was released in 2017. However, he resigned due to several reasons including the death of his son. Then when HBO Max gave him the chance to finish the film, Zack already had the idea of adding a new element. One of them is Batman's enemy.

So far, the Joker is known for his clown-like appearance that can make people angry because of the cruel nature behind it. However, the portrayal of the Joker character this time is different. Instead of silver teeth and tattoos, the "Justice League Snyder's Cut" version of the Joker is darker. No longer a criminal behind a clown's face, in the photo post shared by Vanity Fair the Joker looks even darker with his long hair and clothes like a hospital resident.

"The Joker is really the only thing I think about in retrospect," Zack told Vanity Fair. "But I will say that I always wanted to bring the Joker into that world." Since first working on a DC film a decade ago, Snyder has thought about bringing a bad character into conflict with Batman for his next project. However, after having a dispute with the studio house, he is pessimistic that it will happen. Until finally when he was offered HBO Max to finish the film his own way, he immediately asked for additional photography to include the Joker.
