Review and Synopsis of Uncharted Film Starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg

Uncharted is based on the PlayStation game of the same name. Starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, this film has been eagerly awaited by game fans. Video game based movies are usually not movies that are considered good, especially by game fans. This film is supposed to be an origin film. However, this film doesn't take the time to tell the backstory of the characters in more detail. Of course, this doesn't really matter. This film is an adventure film. Uncharted (2022) tells the story of Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) who is involved in an exciting adventure looking for treasures from ancient ocean explorers. He's not alone. There is a treasure hunter, Victor Sullivan aka Sully (Mark Wahlberg) who is with him. Sully's character claims to know Nathan's older brother, Sam, who disappeared 15 years earlier.

The mission to get the treasure left by Ferdinand Magellan is not as easy as it seems. This pair must face a number of competitors who also want to get the treasure. These include Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who claims to be the rightful owner of the treasure. On the way, they meet Chloe Frazer (Sophie Ali). He is also a treasure hunter who once had a relationship with Sully. Then, there's Jo Braddock (Tati Gabrielle), a mercenary who is hired by Santiago. He also knows Sully.

The adventure begins. Nathan had to learn a lot about this world of treasure hunting. One thing is for sure, Nathan knows that there is no one to trust in the world of treasure hunting. He also had to learn it the hard way.

Tom Holland's performance as Nathan Drake did not disappoint. In this film, Tom plays the younger version of Nathan. Previously, a number of people had doubted his appearance. However, Tom is able to display a smart thief character. Meanwhile, Sully in this film looks different from the game. In the movie, Sully doesn't have a mustache. However, the physical appearance did not prevent Mark Wahlberg from appearing as the mysterious and petty Sully. He manages to convince Nathan to join him on his quest for Magellan's treasure hunt. The chemistry between Tom and Mark is a strong factor in this film. The two of them can make for an interesting partnership that is fun to watch. The interaction between the two is quite flexible and the tektokan looks natural.

The actions created in this film are quite exciting. Especially in the final act, this exciting action can spur the emotions of the audience. In addition, there are a number of emotional moments that are one of the strongest elements in the film. Unfortunately, the plot or story of this film feels shallow. There is a feeling of Pirates of the Caribbean in this film. There are no plot twists that are too surprising that can make the story more interesting or even deeper. Everything felt flat and unremarkable. In addition, the trope that this film follows is also quite cliché. The story of pirates looking for treasure and the expression that there is no honor among thieves is at the heart of this film. A little formulaic and in the end predictable.

The film also squanders the appearance of Antonio Banderas. As an antagonist, Antonio appeared convincing. He has the potential to be a truly ruthless villain. Unfortunately, the screen is not too much. In addition, the villain in this film, Jo Braddock, will be easily forgotten. The action feels very ordinary for an adventure film with full of exciting scenes that trigger the adrenaline. After watching this movie, people might forget about Jo.

Uncharted features a mediocre story with an overly clichéd pirate trope. However, the good looks of the two main characters make this film so exciting. The chemistry of the two people saved this film so that it can still be watched. Uncharted can already be seen in your favorite cinema starting today, Wednesday (16/2). Keep following the health protocols while in the cinema! Have a good time watching!
