Review: The Bad Guys Animated Film From the Book Series By Aaron Blabey

The Bad Guys' is an animated film based on the best-selling children's book series by Aaron Blabey of the same name. The theme of bad people and trying to be good people has actually existed in previous animated films such as 'Wreck-It Ralph' and 'Despicable Me'.

And Dreamworks Animation itself had previously tasted success with a theme similar to “bad guys turn good” in the 2010 film Megamind and at that time it became a box office film and received acclaim from film critics. So it's no surprise that Dreamworks Studio is looking to repeat its similar success (even though it's been over a decade) by producing an equivalent film.

Film Synopsis

The most notorious and feared crime gang 'The Bad Guys' have for years evaded arrest and become the most wanted criminal by the police. When they were finally caught, Mr. Wolf (Sam Rockwell), Mr. Snake (Marc Maron), Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson), Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos) and Mrs.Tarantula (Awkwafina) make a deal that they will be good people in exchange for their freedom.

Immortal evil beast perception

The crime gang led by Mr.Wolf, each has their own unique special skills from being a master of disguise, hacker, expert fighting, strategist and also a con artist. The five animals from time immemorial have been stereotyped as wild, dangerous and evil animals. So they should be avoided or even feared.

Like the wolf is usually the villain in many fairy tales for children or in the form of fables. In 'The Red Riding Hood' and 'The Three Little Pigs', the wolf is told as the Big Evil Wolf who is cunning and resourceful to deceive his prey. Also other animals such as tarantulas and snakes which are considered poisonous or piranhas and sharks are wild and vicious.

Calling themselves 'The Bad Guys', the five friends use the frightening public perception of each of them as eternal bad guys as an excuse to commit various crimes and wreak havoc. This is the essence of the premise used as the development of the storyline in this animated film about negative perceptions attached to certain living things.

Full of action, silly dialogue and humor

'The Bad Guys' displays a dynamic storyline and is quite fast in terms of story timing, the plot is studded with captivating actions. Whether it's through battle scenes or through car chases. The action adventure of these criminals is like a similar film with the theme of theft or robbery which is full of camouflage and deception.

The dialogues are punctuated with silliness and slapstick-style jokes, but what's no less interesting is that this animated film is also wrapped in a plot twist so that the story becomes more and more exciting and tense. Meanwhile, the visual style is no less interesting, combining the sophistication of computer animation (CGI) and traditional 2D animation drawn manually by human hands.

Conclusion

The Bad Guys' is an entertaining film that is certainly suitable to watch with the family, a film that puts forward the theme of true friendship. And tells in depth about the difficulty of changing the perception of something bad into a positive thing.
