The animated film The Bad Guys finally beat Fantastic Beasts 3 at the North American box office

The animated film The Bad Guys beat Fantastic Beasts 3: The Secrets of Dumbledore at the North American box office.The animated comedy film debuted by collecting US$24 million or around Rp346.7 billion (US$1=Rp14,447.8) from screening in 4,009 theaters. That achievement ousted Fantastic Beasts 3 from the top.

As a result, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore was forced to drop two places, to number three, with revenues of US $ 14 million in its second weekend of release. Not only Fantastic Beasts 3, The Bad Guys also beat several other new films, such as The Northman starring Alexander Skarsgard and Anya Taylor-Joy, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent starring Nicholas Cage.

As reported by Variety on Sunday (24/4), the three original films indicate that Hollywood still has new ideas, apart from adapting works from other mediums.

However, this does not guarantee that the audience will always be interested in watching it in theaters. The Bad Guys was produced on a budget of around US$70 million. So far, the film, which is voiced by Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Anthony Ramos, and Awkwafina, has only made a small profit.

The Bad Guys collected an estimated US$87 million from the global box office, US$63 million from overseas and US$24 million from the North American box office. Meanwhile, The Northman, which is in fourth place, earned US$12 million from 3,865 locations. That's a good record for an arthouse film. Unfortunately, that income does not cover the production costs which are rumored to be around US$90 million.

Meanwhile, The Northman added US$5 million from 41 foreign markets this week bringing the total to US$11.5 million. Globally, The Northman raised $23.5 million. The Northman is the latest film directed by Ronert Eggers which tells of the actions of a young Viking prince in an attempt to avenge the murder of his father.

Meanwhile, The Bad Guys tells the story of a criminal group, namely Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snakes, Mr. Sharks, Mr. Piranhas, and Ms. tarantula. They are known to be good at stealing. But after years of committing countless thefts and becoming the world's most wanted criminals, the group was finally caught.
