Sega Video Game Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Continues to the Big Screen

The Sonic the Hedgehog story continues into the sequel. This Sega video game in fact still attracts the attention of fans from various formats, including a big screen. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a sequel to the first film that aired in 2020. Through the production of Paramount Pictures Indonesia, Sonic 2 tells the story of the adventurer of the blue hedgehog after fighting Dr. Robotics.

Sonic (Ben Schwartz) lives his life after successfully expelling Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) to the mushroom planet. The incident only took place briefly after Dr. Robotnik teamed up with Knuckles (Idris Elba).

On the other hand, Sonic is feeling overwhelmed because Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) and Maddie Wachowski (Tika Sumpter) are leaving the house for Maddie's sister's wedding. But Sonic is also reunited with a new friend named Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey).

Sonic 2 is Jeff Fowler's development in directing the film adaptation of this video game. Both from the story, comedy, to the action is much more fun than the first part. If previously we were acquainted with Tom and Sonic, this time the audience will see the conflict experienced by Sonic himself. Starting from the maturation process when Tom and Maddie left to the introduction of new characters.

Its long duration doesn't necessarily make the story boring. The interactions between Sonic 2 (2022) and Tails and the comedy seeds are quite entertaining. The character of Jim Carrey as a villain also appears satisfactory, although the audience may feel that Carrey's characterization looks like Ace Ventura or The Mask.

Apart from that, the animation sometimes doesn't look smooth and noticeable in some scenes. Actually this is not disturbing but it is quite unfortunate considering this is a franchise that fans have been waiting for. Surely Sonic 2 can treat the disappointment of fans from the first part. Not only giving honor to the video game, Sonic 2 also presents an exciting and full of friendship stories.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 may be Jim Carrey's last film

"Sonic the Hedgehog 2" will likely be Jim Carrey's last film, as he has plans to retire from acting. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Carrey expressed his desire to take a break and this has been considered quite seriously.

"Yeah retired. Yes, maybe. I'm quite serious. It depends, if the angels came with some kind of manuscript written in gold ink and told me it would be very important for people to see, I might just continue on my way, but I'll take a break. ," Carrey said as reported by Variety on Saturday, April 2.

Carrey claimed to really like his quiet life and painting on canvas. He also loves his spiritual life very much. "This is something you probably will never hear from other celebrities, I've had enough (acting). I've done more than enough. I quit," said Carrey.

Carrey fans are already used to the actor taking long breaks from film to film. The release of "Sonic the Hedgehog" in 2020 marked Carrey's first leading role in a theatrical film since the 2014 sequel "Dumb and Dumber To." But the actor had appeared in the indie films "The Bad Batch" and "Dark Crimes".

With the release of "Sonic the Hedgehog 2", Carrey returned to the franchise and co-starred with Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, James Marsden and Natasha Rothwell.

The first "Sonic" film opened just before the pandemic in February 2020 and grossed just under $320 million worldwide. The sequel features Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles, a character who will get a spin-off series in the upcoming Paramount Plus.
