The Illuminati and 7 surprise characters in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there are a number of characters that will be a pleasant surprise for Marvel fans. The surprise character appears as a cameo which also describes the conditions of the multiverse chaos faced by Doctor Strange and America Chavez. Some of the surprise characters are members of the Illuminati, a secret group that contains a number of Marvel superheroes.
In the comic version, the Illuminati is filled by Namor the Sub-Marine, Tony Stark aka Iron Man, Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic, Black Bolt, Stephen Strange aka Doctor Strange, and Professor Charles Xavier.
But in Doctor Strange 2, the members of the Illuminati who appear in another universe of the MCU are different from the comic version. They consist of Mister Fantastic, Prof X, Captain Carter, Black Bolt, Captain Marvel, and Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor). Here are 7 surprise characters in Doctor Strange 2.
1. Mister Fantastic (John Krasinski)
The appearance of John Krasinski as Mister Fantastic is actually a fan service for Marvel fans. John Krasinski is actually an actor who is often asked by Marvel fans to play Mister Fantastic.
Prior to Emily Blunt's husband, Mister Fantastic was played by Ioan Gruffudd in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), then Miles Teller in Fantastic Four (2015).
2. Clea (Charlize Theron)
Charlize Theron suddenly appears at the end of the scene as Clea. Clea in the comics is told as the sorceress, student, lover, and wife of Stephen Strange, as well as the successor of the Sorcerer Supreme.

4. Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell)
Hayley Atwell was also a pleasant surprise for Marvel fans in Doctor Strange 2. She was originally best known for playing Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011).

5. Black Bolt (Anson Mount)

6. Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch)
For Marvel fans, Lashana Lynch is not really a new surprise. She previously appeared in Captain Marvel (2019) as pilot Maria Rambeau. In another universe that appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), Maria Rambeau took the position of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) as Captain Marvel. Even in Captain Marvel's story, Maria and Carol are friends.
In this film, Maria Rambeau becomes the last member of the Illuminati to survive the fight against Wanda who is possessed by the Scarlet Witch. Their fighting action is like repeating the story of Maria's child, Monica Rambeau, against Wanda Maximoff in the WandaVision series.
7. Poppa's Pizza (Bruce Campbell)
Bruce Campbell is actually a surprise as well as entertainment for Marvel fans from Sam Raimi. Campbell and Raimi are known to have long been friends and work together.
After appearing in Raimi's Evil Dead, Campbell has appeared in many of the director's films, starting with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, Oz the Great and Powerful, and Darkman.
Included in the Multiverse of Madness, Campbell was towed again by Raimi. This time, Campbell plays a street pizza baker named Pizza Poppa. Does Pizza Poppa have anything to do with the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Not really. Campbell is just Raimi's light-hearted mockery for Marvel fans who are waiting for the second post-credits scene.
