Stepping Back From Fast & Furious X Justin Lin Directing One Punch Man Live-Action Film Adaptation
After withdrawing from the latest film project in the Fast & Furious franchise, Justin Lin now has a new project that is no less interesting. Lin has been appointed as director for the highly acclaimed manga and anime adaptation. As revealed by Deadline, Sony has appointed Lin to helm the live-action adaptation of One Punch Man, one of the most popular anime series of the last ten years or so. The story centers around Saitama, a bald and weak-looking superhero who is able to annihilate enemies with a single blow.
Sony Pictures acquired the rights to the One-Punch Man film from manga publisher Shueisha, and is reportedly hoping to start production on the film by the end of the year. The live-action One Punch Man adaptation will be written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, who previously wrote the scripts for Jumanji and Venom.

Originally launched as a web comic in 2009 created by Japanese artist ONE, One-Punch Man achieved rapid success. This later led to the story being published as a manga by Jump Next with illustrations by Yusuke Murata. To date, 21 volumes have been published, mostly in English, with over 30 million copies sold worldwide.
The book was later turned into an anime, which further increased its popularity. Two seasons of the anime have been produced and aired worldwide, including in the U.S. via Adult Swim. The story, in general, centers on Saitama, a superhero who can defeat any opponent with just one hit. Growing bored, he hopes to find a worthy opponent with the lack of challenge presented to him in the fight against the forces of evil.

Sony first announced this live-action adaptation back in 2020. At the time, the studio revealed that experienced superhero film producer Avi Arad would be handling the project. Arad is known to play a huge role in bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe to life. And now the studio has also announced that Justin Lin will also serve as producer, which makes the future of the franchise's live-action adaptations look good. The question now is: Who will wear Saitama's robes?
