Success in the First Squid Game Treaser Squid Game 2 On Release

After the surprising success of Squid Game when it premiered in September last year, it's a bit surprising that Netflix waited this long to give the green light for a second season. And they have just released a teaser that is quite representative of the phenomenal series. Series creator, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk even shared some insights and details about the upcoming second season.

“A NEW CHAPTER IS COMING: It took 12 years to bring the first season of last year's Squid Game to life. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As writer, director, and producer of Squid Game, thank you to fans around the world. Thanks for watching and liking this show. And now, Gi-hun is back, The Front Man is back. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with the ddakji might be back. You will also be introduced to Young-hee's boyfriend, Cheol-su… Join us once again for a new chapter.”

This isn't the first time Dong-hyuk has said that characters like Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) could return, but it's the first to mention a quiet person playing ddakji (a game where player throws red and blue folding tiles on the ground).

This gives viewers who believe there are unanswered questions surrounding the character and gives good reason to be excited for the upcoming season. Cheol-su's teasing, Young-hee's “girlfriend,” who is a giant doll that doubles as a camera in the series' most iconic game, “Red Light, Green Light,” could suggest a return to the game or some kind of twist to it.

Squid Game was released on Netflix in September 2021 and has quickly become the most-watched Netflix series of all time. Globally, the show clocked 1.54 billion viewing hours in its first twenty-eight days on the streaming giant. The series is an intense and suspenseful drama centered about 456 contestants, each of whom is desperate for money.

They must compete in a deadly classic children's game for a cash prize of 456 billion won. In the short time since its debut, the show has become a worldwide pop culture phenomenon, earning a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes and the furore and success surrounding the series has even surprised Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix.
