Wins At US Actor Johnny Depp Trial "The jury gave me life again,"

US actor Johnny Depp said he welcomed the verdict in a libel case on domestic violence charges that was contested between him and his ex-wife Amber Heard. "The jury gave me life again," Depp said in a statement after the jury awarded him $15 million in damages and only $2 million for Heard.

"From the very beginning, the purpose of bringing this case forward was to uncover the truth, regardless of the outcome," he said. Previously, a US jury on Wednesday (1/6) assessed that both Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard were equally responsible for defamation between them.

This consideration was conveyed by the jury after the trial of the case of allegations of domestic violence. Seven jurors in Virginia awarded Depp $15 million in damages after finding that a 2018 article written by Heard about his "sexual assault" had defamed Depp.

On the other hand, the jury also found that Heard was slandered by statements made by Depp's attorney, Adam Waldman, who told the Daily Mail that his harassment claim was a "hoax", and awarded him $2 million in damages.

The conflict between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard began when Amber Heard's writings about domestic violence were published in the Washington Post. Although it did not explicitly mention Johnny's name, Amber's writing at that time was assumed to refer to the "Fantastic Beast" star.

This trial has been started since April 11. Depp sued Amber Heard for US $ 50 million because it is considered to have tarnished his name and got him kicked out of many projects, including Pirates of the Caribbean. Depp himself registered the lawsuit in 2019 and was supposed to start the trial in 2020. However, due to the pandemic, it was delayed until it finally started on April 11, 2022.

Johnny Depp's trial wins $10.35 million in damages for his case with Amber Heard

Johnny Depp received compensation of US$10.35 million or equivalent to Rp150.6 billion (US$1=Rp14,555) after it was decided to win the defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard. People reported on Wednesday (1/6), Johnny Depp was actually ordered to get compensation of US $ 15 million or Rp. 218 billion, but Amber Heard was only asked to pay US $ 10.35 million because of the compensation limit that applies under Virginia law.

The jury ruled that Depp won all three defamation claims in his case against Amber Heard. Even so, Johnny Depp is also considered proven to have defamed Amber Heard in one claim out of three named by Amber Heard in the counterclaim. For this decision, the jury asked Johnny Depp to pay compensation to Amber Heard amounting to US$2 million or equivalent to Rp29 billion.

This decision came after the jury deliberated for 12 hours behind closed doors and was announced in court on Wednesday (1/6) afternoon. Previously, the trial was held again on Tuesday (31/5) morning with a number of trial agendas and the jury asked for additional time for discussion.
