5 Weekend Movie Recommendations, NOPE to Emergency Declaration

A number of new films can be enjoyed this weekend, such as the star-studded Emergency Declaration, such as Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun to Jeon Do-yeon, and aired at Cannes some time ago.




Jordan Peele's latest film, Nope, can also be seen in theaters this weekend. Kamila Andini's film Before, Now & Then, which premiered at the 2022 Berlinale Film Festival in February, is an option this weekend. Here are 5 weekend movie recommendations that can be watched in cinemas and legal streaming services in Indonesia.


1. NOPE


NOPE tells the story of brothers Emerald (Keke Palmer) and OJ Haywood (Daniel Kaluuya). They are the owners of Haywood Ranch, the home of the only black horse trainer in Hollywood. The Haywood brothers recently lost their father, who was suspected of having been abducted by aliens who were said to have hovered over their property.

So, Emerald and OJ devised a scheme to take pictures and sell the first authentic UFO photos. Kevin (Brandon Perea) is recruited to install a UFO detection camera system, with Craig (Michael Wincott) as a photography expert. However, the aliens were not going to let the plan run smoothly. This film for teenagers can be seen in cinemas.


2. Emergency Declaration


Emergency Declaration is the latest Korean film that tells the story of terror on board an airplane. Terror this time did not use firearms or sharp weapons, but with a virus that was spread among passengers.

The chaos occurred on plane K501 which flew from Incheon, South Korea with the final destination of Hawaii. The happiness and vacation plans of the passengers on the plane vanished when one person suddenly died.

This Korean film is full of stars who have their respective roles in the chaos, one of which is Song Kang-ho who plays a detective in his desperate attempt to investigate a terrorist threat. Films for adults can be seen in theaters.


3. Before, Now & Then


Before, Now & Then is set in the 1960s, saa. When war and conflict broke out in West Java, Nana (Happy Salma) lost her husband who was kidnapped into the forest.

The incident forced Nana to run away from a gang who wanted to make her a wife. This incident also claimed the life of his father, made him poor, and also lost his son. Nana continues to dream of them even though now Nana has started her new life with Raden Darga.

Although now living comfortably with a rich family, Nana's life is not easy. People in the village still think of Nana as a woman who only wants her husband's wealth.

One day, Nana meets Ino (Laura Basuki) who is judged to be different from other women. Nana felt more liberated when she was with her. This film for teens can be seen on Prime Video.


4. Look Both Ways


This comedy romance genre film tells the life of a woman who is divided into two realities. Towards her college graduation, Natalie (Lili Reinhart) decides to have sex with her friend Gabe (Danny Ramirez). The next day, Natalie feels sick and decides on a pregnancy test. From there, his life is divided into two parallel realities based on the outcome.

In one reality, Natalie is pregnant and returns home with her mother and father. Her parents weren't happy about it especially when Gabe proposed because they wanted Natalie to pursue a career. In another reality, Natalie moves to Los Angeles with her best friend Cara (Aisha Dee) and begins to build a career. Natalie applies to be an assistant to animator Lucy Galloway (Nia Long).

After getting the job, he becomes close to his partner Jake (David Corenswet). They encourage each other to pursue each other's dreams. This movie for teens can be watched on Netflix.


5. Broken Wings


This romantic drama film tells the story of a young husband and wife, Adji (Nicholas Saputra) and Nani (Ariel Tatum). They seem to live happily together, especially when Nani is pregnant with their first child.

However, Adji is not always able to accompany Nani because of his job as a police officer who must be on standby when he is needed for duty.
