"Prey (2022) Movie Inspired by Director Dan Trachtenberg's 'God Of War' Video Game

The film "Prey (2022)" directed by Dan Trachtenberg has been well received, despite only being released on streaming services. The film stars actress Amber Midthunder who plays the Comanche tribal warrior.

"Prey" is set in the early 18th century. Midthunder plays Naru, a young Comanche hunter who comes face to face with the iconic ruthless alien hunter. Trachtenberg previously revealed that "Prey" took inspiration from God of War 2018, the latest entry in the eponymous video game franchise.

In the popular game, players control Kratos, a god-hating Spartan warrior endowed with magical powers and weapons who embarks on a quest to deliver the ashes of his late wife to the highest peaks of the nine realms.

During an interview with Bernard Smalls of Cassius Life (via Comic Book), Trachtenberg shared how "Prey" directly took elements from the popular God of War game and incorporated them into the "Predator" prequel. "It was the Predator shield, as well as his Tomahawk that he made because he threw it and summoned it back. It was very inspired by playing that game," he explained.

Armed with his bow, small axe, and hunting abilities, Naru must track down and kill the Predator before wiping out his people. Due to the open references to the popular game, Trachtenberg seems to be a big fan of God of War and all of its predecessors as well.

Although "Prey" can't directly copy God of War's weapon, it still manages to give a subtle salute. It proves Trachtenbrg's respect for video games, where he was inspired but didn't want to steal his ideas.

"Prey" which received an encouraging response made fans wonder if this film will continue into a sequel or another film. In a separate interview, the director briefly explained the possibility of a sequel, although he did not explicitly agree with the decision.
