Prey Movie Was Also Inspired By Jackie Chan

The director of "Prey (2022)" recently talked about what was the inspiration behind the making of the film "Prey". After revealing that certain parts of the film were inspired by the "God of War" video game, director Dan Trachtenberg has now made another confession.

He confirmed that Jackie Chan's film also had an influence in some way. Speaking in an interview with The Filmcast, Trachtenberg revealed at length about casting actress Amber Midthunder for the film's lead role and how she got her to watch many films featuring Hong Kong martial artists and film superstars.

"We reference Jackie Chan a lot," Trachtenberg said. "I get really, really uncomfortable every time I talk about him, because he's like, 'Why are we still talking about Jackie Chan?' I keep making him watch movies."

"It was a challenge for him to find a way in which you believe that he wasn't a nerd being a hero," he said. "He started in a place where there was physical competence, but he didn't quite get there. He had to get the stress out, he had to go through some issues. So in the little touches like him flipping the tomahawk and cutting, that's Jackie Chan's main influence."

Trachtenberg admits that using Chan as an influence on a film is tantamount to him throwing a gauntlet to the lead actress. "So even in the little moments, there's very little that makes you believe in his physical center. So that's the point of me making him watch a million Jackie Chan movies," continued the director.

The director challenged Midthunder to perform physical moves on set so it could be seen on camera that it was him and not a stunt double. Meanwhile, "Prey" itself has also received a pleasant reception even though it was only released on streaming platforms, not theaters.
