Synopsis of The Revenant "Journey of Revenge in the Wild"

The Revenant is an adventure-drama film directed and written by Alejandro G. Inarritu. The film was released in 2015 and is about 156 minutes long. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy.




Besides being a commercial success worldwide, this film was also successful in the eyes of critics by winning 3 Oscars at the Academy Award ceremony. Even the director, Inarritu, again won Best Director after previously also receiving the same award for the film Birdman.

In addition to the great achievement by the director, the film The Revenant is also the only one that brought Leonardo Dicaprio to victory as Best Actor. The following is a synopsis of the film The Revenant.


Father, Son and Troupe of Hunters


The Revenant tells the story of a man named Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) who with his son, Hawk, escorts a group of hunters through the territory of the Arikara tribe. At one point, he was attacked by a bear. He was badly injured and nearly died.

Considered a burden that will only complicate the journey, a member of the hunter named Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) tries to kill Glass. Unexpectedly, Hawk saw Fotzgerald's actions and tried to stop him. Afraid of his bad intentions being exposed to his group, Fitzgerald kills Hawk in front of the helpless Glass.


Revenge Journey


To cover all these crimes, Fitzgerald buried Glass and Hawk. In front of the rest of the hunter group, Fitzgerald confesses that Glass has died from his wounds and his son, Hawk, is missing. Initially all plans went smoothly but it turned out that fate was on Glass's side.

Glass survived. He was determined to avenge the death of his son. In this journey of revenge, Glass must overcome various obstacles such as extreme cold weather, thick snow environment, Arikara tribe, and wild animals from the forest.


A mix of true story and fiction


The Revenant film is a story based on a true story. The film is based on Michael Punke's novel The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge released in 2002, also a novel based on the 1915 poem The Song of Hugh Glass.

However, not everything in the film actually happens in the original story. It is said that originally, the story was not set in winter and in a mountainous area. Even in the original story no one dies.
