Zoe Kravitz's Director's Debut in "Pussy Island" Fans Excited

Zoe Kravitz's directorial debut in "Pussy Island" has fans excited. The film is described as a 'thriller genre', with Kravitz sitting behind the scenes to direct.

He will direct the script he co-wrote with E.T. Feigenbaum. The film has a notable cast that includes Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie, and Simon Rex. In a recent chat with WSJ Magazine, Kravitz reflected on his decision to vote for Tatum.

Kravitz saw that Tatum was a person who wasn't afraid to explore the dark and that Kravitz also knew from afar that Tatum was a feminist. The film's original idea began five years before the #MeToo movement emerged, but for Kravitz, it was born out of a lot of anger and frustration around the lack of conversation about the treatment of women in an industry where a lot of money is involved.

"Pussy Island" tells the story of Frida (Ackie), a young cocktail waitress who is attracted to philanthropist and tech mogul Slater King (Tatum). Frida thought she had succeeded when King responded to her advances and invited her to an intimate gathering on his private island.

As he effortlessly slips into the world of the rich and famous, he realizes that despite the beautiful setting, amazing people, and wild late-night parties, there's more to the island than meets the eye. Something scary.

Playing a dark and evil character is the first time for Tatum. While fans have seen him play the good neighbor boy or girlfriend, Kravitz was interested in choosing him to play King because he had never played a dark character before.

"I thought it was interesting to watch someone who mostly plays the boy next door, a nice, loving guy and stuff like that," he said. "I felt, even remotely, before I knew her, that she was a feminist and that she wasn't afraid to explore that darkness, because she knew she wasn't. That's why I was attracted to her and I wanted to meet her. And I made the right decision."
